What is BMI?

Body Mass Index (BMI) is a simple measure that uses your height and weight to estimate whether you're in a healthy weight range. It's widely used as a quick screening tool by health professionals.

How it's calculated

BMI divides your weight in kilograms by the square of your height in metres (kg/m²). A result between 18.5 and 24.9 is generally considered a healthy weight, 25 to 29.9 is classed as overweight, and 30 or above as obese.

A note on limitations

BMI is a general guide, not a diagnosis. It doesn't account for muscle mass, body composition, age, or ethnicity, so very muscular people may read as "overweight" despite low body fat. Treat your result as a starting point, and speak to a professional for tailored advice.
